File Gumbo Bar – Disgusting

My mother’s last dinner with us before she would no longer be with us.

I was going to only review places that I liked but I guess since I do not have that many posts I’ll just review wherever I go and take photos. 🙂

If you have to eat here, don’t and go get pizza 2 blocks away. But if you must the cornmeal fried seafood is definitely GOOD

Crawfish and Okra Etouffee (1/5)

This was actually so bitter no joke that I when I took a bite I honest to god thought I had covid. I drank my drink and went for a bite of this and it was so bitter I was scared I was sick. Other people tried it and they agreed it was very bitter.

Tiny’s Gumbo – All in (1/5)

I honestly want to give this a 2/5 because eating this after the etouffe made me realize I wasn’t sick it was just terrible food in my mouth. This was also super bitter but not as bad as the etouffe. No flavour at all.

Beans and Rice (2/5)

I do not even want to talk about this.

Crawfish Mac and Cheese (2/5)

No flavour. How? its just cheese and seafood right? I don’t know this was actually impressive with how bad it was. like how do you remove flavour in your cooking process?

Collard Greens and Peas Salad (3.8/5)

Actually P good. I liked it so much . It was not what I expected and I didn’t even want to order this but it ended up being a star of the night. litte bitter little sour with a nice mush from the peas and I think there is some bacon bits in there or something meaty and savory like bits in there p nice.

Cornmeal Fried Seafood (4/5)

Solid So good. It was the first thing we got and it gave me high hopes for the rest of the items. good ratio of cornmeal to meat / good selection of meat catfish oyster crawfish . sauce was nice too

Home Fried Potato Chips (2/5)

not good. boring . BUT edible so thats nice the a sauce it came with helps too.

Drinks (3.7/5)

we got 3 drinks didn’t really care to remember the names because why come here for drinks if the food sucks. I got the pimms drink thing and it was kind of sweet little tangy I guess.

Price (1/5)

It was HELLA EXPENSIVE and NOT GOOD so the price being high hurts even more honestly. Most things there were also like 25$ each MINIMUM.

Experience (2/5)

It is not the wait staff’s fault that the food sucked. The lighting was hella dark and that isn’t really my thing. It is p spacious in there though so that is nice kind of. There isn’t like a centralizing theme other than dark bar that maybe shouldn’t sell food anymore.

While the food was very bad and I hope to never eat anything that tasted like that ever again the 3 drinks we ordered were pretty good. We chose this place because my mother wanted southern/creole food before going back to California. We randomly chose and that was good because I would’ve cut contact with whomever recommended me to eat at this place.

Funny story after this fiasco we went to like some showing of art a couple blocks down. The first floor was like robots stalking around a corn maze and there was a downstairs. We went downstairs (Me Vivi and Dao vuong(Mom) and Michielle) and there was a exhibit or showing down there and it was neat. There was even a Water spout like shooting water everywhere and We all exclaimed how cool that was. I thought it was part of the exhibit because the plaque dedicated to that section was saying like change and erosion was a theme and the artist comes and changes the area a bit to give this idea that the art is being altered or whatever. Someone comes down and says holy fuck and grabs the water pipe and puts it back where it belongs apparently and then turns off the lights and starts calling people to let them know what happened. We left because the curator was distraught but we couldn’t not laugh because we just thought it was part of the art display.
