Gracie chose this place. I don’t know if it was because I didn’t LOVE the other Mexican spot she recommended and she wanted to redeem herself or something but here I am again trying another Mexican restaurant in good ol’ New York.

guacamole and chips 3.5/5

Chips – Crispy / Slightly salted / wish it was more of both.

Guacamole – Basic But Chunky – While I am usually down for some BBC this is maybe a little bit too B. Needs a bit more SALT for my taste. it’s not bad but I’ve definitely had better. TOO BASIC is my final verdict

overall This is a Alright app that is definetly lacking. I used this dish to eat some of the other items. The chip proved very versatile with it’s strong structure it was no problem scooping whatever I needed.

summer melon aguachile 5/5

fluke, honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon radish, serrano

The sauce is soo flavourful but also light. it can be poured on any of the tacos or nachos we got and it just elevates it. slight tang and the assortment of fruit paired so well with the slightly acidic sauce. fluke so tender. I could eat this EVERYDAY

crispy lamb tacos 3/5

tortilla is decent. good texture not too chewy not dry really holds moisture well and folds without crumbling or deteriorating. lacking in flavor but is a decent size. The meat itself is kind of lack luster in flavour and this where adding in that aguachile sauce really adds some oomph/personalitty to the dish. The guac is the same guac as in the chips and guac so the same complaints there.

spicy fried shrimp tacos 3.8/5

Tortilla : decent. good texture not too chewy not dry really holds moisture well and folds without crumbling or deteriorating. lacking in flavor but is a decent size.

Filling : It is just fish and tartar and whatever amount of lettuce that happened to gracefully fall on the taco shell as the waiter walked through the produce aisle.

Fish Breaded not too heavily. good ratio of breading to meat. Fish very nice quality. not flaky or stringy and has a good break when you bite into it. The tartar sauce is very forgettable but it is tartar sauce so. I like the FISH a lot here and could do without being in a taco I mean look at it. doesn’t take much imagination to what it would be like without that tortilla there.

roasted oyster mushroom tacos 4/5

Honestly the only taco here that is like worth getting. It’s not trying to be authentic. It’s just a nice taco with a personality that says mexican restaurant near the junction of Bushwick and Queens. Mushrooms aren’t too wet and provide a nice kick of umami. The toppings work well and you hardly notice it’s a proteinless taco. I am perplexed by the price when you do realize that but it’s a nice taco.

Yoga inspired dessert 4.5/5

Very different. It’s like a jello but also creamy. I love the pistachios here that give a slight KICK in the salty. balances well with the jello. There is a slight creamyish thing on top that is lighter but more decadent than the jello. I liked it a lot. It’s not everyday I find a dish that I am having fun whilst eating it and also enjoying the flavor.

Price 2/5

it’s expensive. 15$ avg for two tacos. I mean it’s def worth to come here just for the apps maybe I’ll see if the entrees are better value. Def don’t come here for a deal.

Experience 4/5

Overall would I come here again? I guess especially for that aguachile. Decent seating. very nice staff and the food experience was fun. there were some items on the board that are fun and add to the fun of going out to eat. They mention they change the menu every now and then based on the season so that is always nice.

I do think it is fun trying out mexican restuarants in NY. hopefully one of them will have burritos. I do miss my misssion burritos or california fries.

Last week of surgery rotation. Each week that goes by I have to face the realities of my career path. Do I just accept the long hours and go do a surgical specialty and forgo my dream of being a doctor M-W and then a Baker/Chef T-Fr. Maybe I romanticize the work/lifestyle/connections I’d have working in the food service industry. Why am I even contemplating do surgery? I’ve been complaining about how shit it is and I got a LUCKY ROTATION I barely do anything and I hate it here. whatever I am going to keep this short I have my shelf exam this week and I have to do a write up and I have to go watch love island and I have to do my modules and I have to go buy clothes for a wedding this friday and I want to bake something. oh my.
