Will’s Food Diary

Decided to do a SOLO dinner date for my birthday the other day. It was omakase and I was the only person in the restaurant until they brought out the mochi at the end. NOT posting every single course because I don’t feel like it. Just the ones I really liked.

BOTAN ebi with foie gras – 5/5

Love their BOTAN ebi – they use THICKER shrimps than I am used to and it’s so gosh darn buttery.

OOTORO with Caviar – 5/5

A blast of umami with a decent amount of caviar. One of the better places to get ootoro in NY.

Hamachi – 5/5

The way they prepare the hamachi here is so good. It’s like so close to an ootoro flavour profile but from a “cheaper” fish. Big fan was very surprised with the punch this one was packing.

Food – 4/5

All of the pieces I thought were good and there was some slight deviation between how the pieces were prepared. I did only love a couple of the pieces and the rest were like oh this is high quality fish with a decent sauce and sushi rice.

Experience – 4/5

Very friendly staff with a lot of seating.

Price – 4/5

One of the better value spots you can get for omakase at 16 courses for 99$. I think that most of the pieces were pretty good and some of the stand outs were the BOTAN EBI / HAMACHI / OO TORO

Would I come back here? Not like anytime soon I would probably prefer to try out a lot more other spots before returning to this one and if someone one wanted omakase this would definitely be in the more budget friendly options compared to some other ones.
